The instinct is to think of a 2,000m² ceiling as a 200m² ceiling done ten times. It is not. A small ceiling is an installation task. A ceiling this size is a programme, and almost everything that can go wrong with it goes wrong in the planning rather than in the fixing.
Setting out is the clearest example. On a single room, a grid line that is a few millimetres out is invisible. Run that same error the length of a building and it becomes the thing everybody sees, and by the time it is obvious you are a long way from the wall you started at. So the line is established once, checked, and then defended.
The same is true of the programme. At this scale you are working in and around other trades continuously, and the skill is staying ahead of the people following you without closing off access that somebody still needs. That is a daily conversation on site, not a plan drawn once at the start.
What a laboratory adds on top
A lab ceiling carries far more than an office ceiling. Extract, services and controlled environments all have to be coordinated against the grid layout before any hangers go in. On a small job you can adapt as you go. Over 2,000m² you cannot, because moving a grid line to suit a duct after the event is not a local change, it propagates.
The tile specification is also working rather than simply covering a void, so it is chosen against what the space actually requires. This is the kind of job where the specification conversation happens properly at the start or it happens expensively later.
