What is an acoustic ceiling?
An acoustic ceiling uses high-performance tiles with a higher sound absorption rating than standard mineral tiles. The tiles are porous or fibrous to trap sound waves instead of reflecting them. This lowers echo, reduces background noise and improves the overall acoustic quality of the space.
Acoustic performance is measured by NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient). A tile with an NRC of 0.70 absorbs 70% of the sound that hits it. Standard ceiling tiles have an NRC of around 0.50. High-performance acoustic tiles reach 0.80 to 0.95.
