A 300m2 MF ceiling project with coffered detailing in a new build Cheshire home
The project
This was a full MF suspended ceiling installation in a large new build home in Prestbury, Cheshire. We installed 300m2 of MF ceilings and plasterboard throughout the property, including coffered ceiling details in the principal rooms, all set dead level and finished ready for the plasterer to skim.
MF (metal furring) ceilings give a solid, flush, seamless finish with no grid lines, which is why they are the first choice for high end residential work. On a property of this standard, a level, square, well set out ceiling is what makes the plastering and decorating that follow look right.

The work, stage by stage
Metalwork
The first stage of an MF ceiling. The metal channels are fixed to a level line set out with a laser, ready to take the plasterboard. Every channel is set dead level so the finished ceiling is flat and true.
Boarding
With the metalwork set out and levelled, the plasterboard is fixed to the MF channels. Boards are staggered and screw fixed at set centres so the ceiling is solid and ready for taping and skimming.
Coffered detail
In the principal rooms we formed coffered ceiling details, a recessed centre panel with a dropped perimeter, built into the metalwork from the start so the lines stay crisp and square.
Finished ready for skim
The plasterboard fully fixed, the coffer details formed and every joint set for the plasterer to skim to a smooth finish. Level metalwork and tidy boarding make everything that follows easier.
